Medical or Patient Based: Your doctor or chiropractor has determined that you need “medically necessary” massage treatment and has written a prescription or referral for massage. A prescription is almost always needed if you want insurance (managed health care, PIP, Auto Accident, L & I, or any other type of insurance) to pay for your treatment. Your massage session must conform to your prescription. |
|
Custom or Client Based (Relaxation): You, not insurance, is paying for the massage session.
Your options include: Chronic Pain Treatment: Various Orthopedic massage techniques that usually relieve or significantly reduce pain symptoms caused by adhesions, tense, tight muscles or minor injury. Deep Tissue: Techniques designed to get into the deeper layers of muscle and fascia to release tension knots. Relaxation: Swedish massage techniques designed to sooth and relax the body. Hot Stone: The warmth and feel of a warmed stone gliding over your tissue is indescribable. It feels better than hot fudge tastes. |

Dressing for Treatment Massage During treatment (as opposed to relaxation) massage, range of motion movements and stretches are often part of the therapy. Generally, it is easier if you wear shorts and a close fitting top or sports bra. Some areas are best worked while sitting and others while laying down. Expect to participate and move during treatment. Wear clothes that you will be comfortable if sitting on the table and that still allow the therapist access to your muscles. In general, closer fitting work out clothes or shorts and a sports bra / tank top work great. Jeans, not so much. |

Dressing for Relaxation Massage: Traditionally, clients are completely unclothed while receiving a relaxation massage. However, sometimes you simply feel more comfortable if you leave your underwear on during the session. Your boundaries and comfort are what is most important. |
